Waterspoon – Daylight (Producer Royale Round 2)

This is Will with Waterspoon. We made this track for the Cymatics - Producer Royale: Round 2 - Contest. I had a great time making this track with my writing partners Krysta, J. Yurkiewicz, and Rezurrection. The challenge was to be unique, and I made the challenge a bit harder by committing aside from any vocals we wrote on the track to only use the Producer Royale Sample Pack to source sounds. We used the Houdini melody as the inspiration and immediately heard a spooky haunted house vibe. We based the track on the observation that for some, when you try to fall asleep is when negative thoughts come into your mind, and then when you wake up it seems those thoughts are not so pressing. Which lead to creepy vocal lines, heavy guitars, and some rock opera on top of a hip-hop beat. I used some sound design tricks to attempt to get what we heard in our heads. Here are some examples. The heavy guitars were made from the Cymatics - Drill 808 through simpler and a guitar amp simulator. The Cymbals were created from reversing the reverse cymbals. These also helped make the Hi hat sounds. To get the right vocal feel we did some speed and pitch tricks when recording the takes. Check out Instagram to see some of the process!!!
