Tension

My entry for the Cymatics King of Beats contest, Mayhem Edition. This was made with one of the beat melodies from the Cymatics MAYHEM Beta Preview pack. The original melody idea was called Apocalypse, 154 BPM, in B Minor. I used the original's melody, chorus pad, and riser throughout the song basically as they were intended, the bassline wasn't perfect for me so I used it for the intro but quickly transitioned to my own 808 for the pre drop and for the rest of the song. I added my own twist to the melodies and risers with fx processing and transpositions, and I added all the drums (most, if not all, are Cymatics drum sample one shots as well) organized it into a full song and did my best to keep the sonics intact while bringing out the best in the melodies and my drum hits, while trying to mitigate interferences and the harsh, muddled frequencies of the chorus pad. This is my first Contest Entry ever and I took almost the entire month to finish this lol. I've only been producing for about 6 months seriously, and this was probably my biggest project so far, as far as rhythmic complexity and variation goes (for instance I have 3 different hats, 2 different snares, and got creative with them as much as I could, 3 open hats, one with really odd tuning (-12 semitones) but I loved it and learned a lot especially when mixing it all. I wanted to go more complex but remembered that the contest wanted us to make a beat that was "vocal ready", as in a typical trap type beat or something, and I was trying to stay careful not to ruin the vocal space as well as trying to keep the song interesting enough as is because it has no vocals to carry it. I even had a cool vox sample "ah" one shot in the intro at first but was scared to include it in the final version as I read the rules had stated no vocal samples other than ones in the mayhem pack itself, and this "ah" hit was from another pack.... All in all I think it's a great achievement for my specific skillset overall, and even if I don't win the contest, it pushed me to produce a solid beat and see it through to the end (I almost gave up on it, after 4 different melody idea scraps and about 5 revisions into this song....but it came together). This is the first beat I've finished in a long time and I think I'm gonna keep at it and start uploading to SoundCloud, Beat Stars and maybe YouTube... After this one I realized I'm feeing ready (as I'll ever be) to jump head first in the water and try to make a name for myself as a producer!! So thanks, Cymatics for the push to finish the song, and the motivation of the contest to make me work on it and see it through to the end!
